Kitesurf and the beaches of Isla Canela: the ideal combination
If you are looking for an adventure that combines water sports with direct contact with the sea and nature, kitesurfing emerges as the activity of choice. Kitesurfing, which has gained popularity all over the world, attracts enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels, offering a unique experience of interaction with water and wind.
Large, uncrowded areas
The wide expanse of Isla Canela’s beach means that there are generous riding areas available, giving kitesurfers the space they need to explore and enjoy the sport freely and without restriction. To ensure the safety of all participants, certain areas of the beach have been specifically designated for kitesurfing.
During the high season, from 15th June to 15th September, kitesurfing is restricted to a specially designated area, located on San Bruno Beach, where our school is also located. Outside this area and period, kiters can enjoy the entire length of the beach, except in the areas reserved for sailing boats, which are delimited by a line of yellow buoys parallel to the coast.
Accessing these boating areas requires passing through nautical channels, which can be a challenge for beginners. It is important to respect these time and space restrictions to avoid significant fines and to ensure safe and respectful kitesurfing in Isla Canela.
Safe spaces
Isla Canela has lagoons where you’ll be able to stand up while you start your first laps, which will give you a lot of security and confidence. This is especially important for families with children or teenagers.
Relaxed and friendly atmosphere
Isla Canela is also known for its relaxed atmosphere. With a wide range of accommodation, restaurants and leisure and sports activities (golf, croquet, sailing, biking), Isla Canela offers everything you need to enjoy yourself both on and off the water.
Schools and professional services
For those who wish to get started in kitesurfing or improve their skills, Isla Canela has schools and teaching centres such as Isla Canela Kite – Water Sports, which offers courses and classes guided by certified instructors, who will not only help you master the basic techniques of kitesurfing, but will also offer you safety tips and personalised advice to ensure the best experience.
Kitesurfing uniquely combines sport, nature and fun, making it a vibrant and lively activity. Isla Canela, meanwhile, has established itself as an epicentre for fans of this exciting water sport. It has hosted three editions of the Spanish Kitesurfing Championships in 2017, 2018 and 2019, under the name of Spain Kiteboarding League, consolidating itself as a favourite place for the practice and competition of this sport.
